Emily Ruth Allen is a doctoral student in musicology at Florida State University (FSU). She also completed her Master of Music degree in Historical Musicology at FSU in April 2016. Prior to that, Allen received a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in Music with Elected Studies in Specific Outside Fields (mathematics) from the University of South Alabama. Allen is involved in various activities at FSU, currently serving as president of FSU’s Society for Musicology and as representative for the College of Music in the Congress of Graduate Students. Her research primarily concerns southeastern American musics. In addition to being a musicologist, Allen is an active clarinet, crumhorn, and Renaissance recorder player, performing regularly throughout the Tallahassee area.
